Our New Project – The Dream Becomes a Reality

Our first project was completed on January 19, 2017 with the installation of a living wall which was donated to the CHSLD Bon Séjour Long-Term Care Centre in Gatineau, Quebec. The wall stands just over eight feet high, four feet wide and 28 inches deep.

“Bon Séjour” has 100 permanent beds and seven respite beds for elderly persons who have lost all ability to live independently. The living wall is located in the centre’s “great room.” Located on the main floor of the residence, the great room is geared to social activities for the residents and for gatherings with their loved ones and the approximately 20 active volunteers on site. It is a wide open space that, by its very nature, symbolizes an open community since it is accessible to all who enter the residence.

Research has shown that people in spaces with vegetation compared to those lacking vegetation are more likely to experience the following outcomes:

  • Psychological and physiological stress reduction
  • More positively toned moods
  • Increased ability to re-focus attention
  • Mental restoration and reduced mental fatigue
  • Improved performance on cognitive tasks
  • Reduced pain perceptions in health care settings

This project was made possible through the cooperation of the Outaouais Integrated Health and Social Services Centre (CISSS in French). The Forget For A Moment Foundation also acknowledges and appreciates the efforts of the professionals who volunteered their services to construct and install the living wall, and to the suppliers for their in-kind donations of some of the materials for construction of the living wall:

The official inauguration will held on March 2, 2017.
