Inspired by the positive results experienced at CHSLD Ernest-Brisson (previously known as Bon Séjour), the management of the Outaouais Integrated Health and Social Services Centre and Gatineau’s CHSLD Lionel-Émond (previously known as Foyer du Bonheur) contacted us at the end of the summer of 2019, requesting a living wall for their institution. We therefore connected with the Health Gatineau Foundation to ensure financing.
Built by the Wallemi, this beautiful living wall was constructed during a difficult time – at the beginning of the COVID 19 pandemic, March 2020, just before the confinement imposed at all CHSLDs. Due to the measures imposed internally, this difficult reality initially limited the number of residents who had to privilege of enjoying the wall. Family visits were also discontinued.
Nevertheless, the living wall never stopped producing great responses among the employees of the Centre, who took their breaks right next to the wall. The comments on its beauty, its calming effect and the overall aesthetics of the coffee area were numerous and one can say that the presence of the living wall contributed to introduce, and continues to produce a bit of calm and relaxation among the employee caregivers.
The wall brings smiles to the faces of the personal helpers and visitors. The day is coming – we hope – when the residents will be able to fully profit from the wall as well.
